No Interstate Microguide: Panama City Beach to New Orleans
When we left Panama City Beach (as quickly and with as much enthusiasm as humanly possible) for New Orleans, it was important to us to take our time. We’d heard that the ride down the coastal roads was worth our time, and it really was truly the most pleasant day. The sun was out and, basically, the first ten hours is one long, leisurely drive through happy little beach towns.
We will say, once you get close to New Orleans, it may be worth it to find the interstate; we didn’t, and our GPS took us down some service roads that looked (and felt) like they’d been airlifted directly from Chernobyl.
With no stops, you can probably make this drive in between seven and eight hours, but making stops is part of the point. So, take your time, stop when and where you want to, and make sure you pack a picnic.
